According to
the BBC, the UK government is set to publish the long awaited eCommerce bill next week. It's unlikely to include key escrow measures, following pressure from the industry during initial consultations.
Likely measures are:
- A voluntary licensing scheme to provide self-regulation
- legal recognition of digital signatures
- powers to require decryption of material on production of a warrant. This replaces the earlier escrow proposals, and means that specific permission will have to be sought for each decryption
- increasing the powers of the telecoms regulator.
There's also a
graphics-light version.
