Perl 5 6 Coming Soon
Big changes coming in perl. Most obviously, the versioning numbers are changing. What was to be 5.006 will be 5.6.

There's all kinds of cool stuff coming - improved threading, some really funky regex stuff, work being done on providing an event loop (fun for the non-web perl programmers), much finer control of lexical warnings - and more.
